WebDesign > SetUpAWikiNamePage

hello world

Your WikiName page is your home page for this course. You'll be linking to some of your writing for this class form this WikiName page, as well as using it for notes, drafts, final versions of your own work, links to example sites and other information that you find useful. You will also be using it to keep in contact with others in your workgroup, to maintain a calendar, to leave notes to yourself and others, to store drafts of copy, and to record your work on your project.

You will also have a web design project page that you will share with members of your group.

This page will become part of your major project and evaluation. As with other projects in the course, professionalism is expected.

Assignment: Design and write your WikiName page.

Review how to edit on the GettingStarted page. Practice in the WikiSandBox if you'ld like to before you start.

  • From the home page for Web Design, or in the sidebar, find your name in the list of participants, follow it to your WikiName page.

Design this page, including

  • a short introduction or autobiography.
  • an email link you want me -and others - to use to communicate with you: bsu email preferred. Grades and comments will be sent via this link.
  • annotated links to other pages or web sites.
  • anything else you want to add.
  • a link to a ProjectWorkSheet page. On that page, keep a running record of the work you have done on your site project by date.
  • You can add pages to the wiki in your own WikiName group by creating a WikiWord, or by encasing a page title in douible-brackets.

Use level 2 and 3 headings, lists, indented paragraphs, even tables... to create a structured - organized - page. Refer to the StyleGuide? and TextFormattingRules for possibilities.

Danger

This wiki uses text colors, bgcolors, and font sizes. You can make a visual mess of a page, so proceed at your own risk. The page to look at is PmWiki/WikiStyleExamples

You might want to see how others have approached their WikiName page here? or here. Watch for pages that give information about the writer, as well as links to other pages and sites.

Adding Pages

You can add pages that become part of your wiki space. Go to a page and use a WikiWord to create a new page. These pages will be open to everyone for editing.

Practice

Use your course WikiName page to practice formatting and linking in PmWiki.

  • Try using the button bar for formatting and linking.
  • You might want to create a page titled DrawingBoard on your WikiName page to store scraps, notes, and other draft content.
  • Prepare in image for the web: See PreparingImages. The maximum width is about 500 pix. You'll need the upload password. Upload the image first. Start on the page you want the image to appear. Click the Upload button, and follow the instructions. Name the image using .jpg as an extention. Then add Attach:filename.jpgwhere you want the image to appear and save the page.
