TravelPrograms > Personas

Excellent. These are detailed enough and thought-through enough to help you make design choices. I can see the user goals embedded in the last couple of paragraphs. You might want to bring them out in a list so you can refer to them easily. I thought you were going to do 3 (the parent). Is that missing? 7/10 mcm

Inexperienced Traveler

Freya Maddison

Freya is a nineteen-year-old sophomore in college, majoring in English and Art History. Freya plans to take part in the Eurospring program through BSU. She is unsure how the credits from Eurospring will be applied to either of her majors or through her needed liberal education requirements.

Freya was born and raised in the small Northern Minnesota town of Baudette. Her family took many camping trips around the state as she was growing up. The bulk of her traveling experience has been on these trips and on family vacations to Minneapolis/St. Paul. She has traveled out of state a few different times, also with her family, to Chicago and to California. All of her travel experience has been on the ground by car or by bus and it has been within the safety net of her family.

Freya is excited about her trip abroad, but also a bit scared, as she doesn’t know the ins and outs of airports or of train stations. She has never traveled by underground and is apprehensive about crime in the cities she will be traveling to.

Freya is interested in seeing many of the works of art that are available in many of the museums, but she isn’t sure what museums hold what works. She feels overwhelmed at the thought of having to attempt to figure out where all the things she wants to see are housed.

Freya is extremely excited about her trip, but she finds the information provided by those organizing the trip incomplete. She wonders how to go about finding the information that she wants and if she will be able to find it all in time.

Experienced Traveler

Amelia Goodall

Amelia is a 22 year old senior in college majoring in International Relations, and three foreign languages. Amelia has been intrigued by other cultures and places since she was a child. She spent a semester in Japan in high school as an exchange student. Since starting college she has heard about short travel programs such as J-term and Sinosummer, and even tried one, but wanted to immerse herself in another culture even more at the college level. So she spent a semester in Malaysia and now would like to spend a semester abroad again, in another location. However, she is undecided as to where.

She does know one thing though - that she was highly uninformed the first semester abroad and would like to do a much more thourough job of preparing this time around. She would also like to take a crash course in the language of the country where she will stay, even though the college she attended in Malaysia was English speaking. It would've been easier to explore the surrounding area if she'd had a larger vocabulary of Malay words ahead of time.

She also got extremely sick the first time abroad and had trouble finding help. Amelia wants to make sure she will not be in such a dangerous situation again. It would be good to have more than one source to contact for medical help. Her family would feel much better to.

After traveling previously, both privately and through school, Amelia is well aware that the U.S. dollar will get you much further in some countries than in others. If Amelia knew where whe was going it would be easy for her to find a way to convert the currency. Hoever, since she is just browsing, and doesn't have the time to look up that information for all the potential countries she is considering, she would like to find a site that has the currency information right there, laid out for her to find quickly, so she can compare. Preferably, the FULL cost of the trip, already converted to it U.S. equivalency, would be useful.

Amelia is frustrated by the amount of time it takes to find the smallest most basic types of information. If a site is incomplete, it makes the information gathering process much more daunting. She is a precise person who doesn't like to get half answers or incomplete information.

Amelia would like to have more contact with the students and teachers of of the next school this time as well, before going there. She would like to hear the opinions of students from those countries, and really hear what they think of the the schools she will be attending. Amelia would also like to speak with other students from the U.S. at her current college who have gone to the countries and colleges she is considering, if there are any who have gone.

Amelia would also like to seriously consider doing not just classes abroad, but perhaps an internship or even holding a job. If she takes classes abroad in her senior year whe needs to make sure they will all transfer and cover the categories she needs to fill. Perhaps she would find information regarding independent study or online courses at Bemidji State University useful.
