Folksonomy: anti-taxonomy (taxonomy is controlled language) -gets away from controlled language and lets user use own language to navigate (everyday, speech language) delicious- social bookmarking, create account, add web pages as bookmark to create tabs to describe site or help self remember later, can access from any computer (kinda like carrying your favorites around in your pocket) - most popular tags can give you an idea of the people who are using the site - more often tag is used the less meaningful it becomes...? maybe? - words used to describe site may have nothing to do with that site in your mind -limited to one-word tags in most cases -may spark interest to follow links, or may deter from digging deeper - may not be using it for greater good but for self use only flickr- photos and photo sharing - tags picked by photo poster, may be obscure Amazon- tags used by users to tag products, rate them (?) Rhetorical ideas: -Mnemonic Device- used for self to remember, personal search experience plays a role - Logos- some do use so others can find things easier, logical words (familiar to most people) - Phronesus- practical wisdom (you have to have some knowledge in order to tag something)
