hello world

Your WikiName page is your home page for this course. It's a publishing space for your course work. You'll be hanging some of your writing for this class off your WikiName page. But you can also use your WikiName page as an entry point to other work you wish to publish.

Design and create a WikiName page. Make this your home page for this course. You'll be adding to this page throughout the course.

Review how to edit on the GettingStarted page. Practice in the SandBox if you'ld like to before you start.

  • From the home page for Elements, or in the sidebar, find your name in the list of participants, follow it to your WikiName page.

  • Design this page, including
    • a short introduction or auto bio (You can use either / both the text or crayon version of ThreeHundredWordsInPrint, adapted to the wiki.)
    • an email link you want me to use to communicate with you: bsu email preferred. grades and comments will be sent via this link.
    • annotated links to other pages or web sites.
    • anything else you want to add.
  • You can add pages to the wiki, either free-standing ones or pages in your own WikiName? group.

Use level 2 and 3 headings, lists, indented paragraphs, even tables... to create a structured - organized - page. Refer to the StyleGuide and TextFormattingRules for possibilities.

Danger

This wiki uses text colors, bgcolors, and font sizes. You can make a visual mess of a page, so proceed at your own risk. The page to look at is WikiStyleExamples

You might want to see how others have approached their WikiName page CourseParticipants here?. Watch for pages that give information about the writer, as well as links to other pages and sites.

Adding Pages

You can add pages that become part of this wiki overall. To do so, go to an appropriate page and use a WikiWord? to create a new page. These pages will be open to everyone for editing.

Groups

This wiki uses groups - like folders or directories - to organize pages. The primary group is Elements?, which we're using for instructional pages: assignments, notes, lectures, tutorials, group work....

Your WikiName? page is the entry point - the home page - to your own group, your space for your course work and whatever else you want to use the wiki for. The pages aren't private - we can all read them, link to them, and edit them. But you can organize your pages under your own name. This lets you develop your own corner of the wiki as you see fit, without bumping into each other. If you start a page on your WikiName? page, it will be created in your WikiName? group.

Practice

Use your course WikiName page to practice formatting and linking in PmWiki.

  • Try using the button bar for formatting and linking.
  • You might want to create a page titled DrawingBoard? on your WikiName page to store scraps, notes, and other draft content.
  • Prepare in image for the web (compress and save as .jpg. The maximum width is about 500 px). You'll need the upload password. Upload the image first. Start on the page you want the image to appear. Click the Upload button, and follow the instructions. Name the image using .jpg as an extention. Then add Attach:filename.jpgwhere you want the image to appear and save the page.
