  • page's quote/maxim is "your future is here..."
  • states that "words and pictures are the two main elements used to communicate" then defines the terms further
  • heading on page: "positions you may hold" is in orange text
  • subheadings under positions "art director, graphic designer, production artist, illustrator, and job market (which doesn't 'fit' necessarily
  • descriptions follow those subheading

Vision

  • heading of page is maxim "creativity, at the core of the arts, is encouraged"

Rhetorical Patterns

Patterns of Repitition

  • top navigation bar in each page lists:
types of jobs in the field - "web design/illustration/painting/3D/advertisement/animation"
contact info: mailing/physical address and toll-free phone number
button links to each of the main sections: student work, courses, overview, vision, opportunity, instructors, ATC home page, contact us
  • Bottom navigation bar is essentially the same on each page
lists addresses and phone number
link to MNSCU site
toll-free #, local #, Fax #, hearing-impaired #, webmaster e-mail hyperlink, privacy disclaimer link, en espanal link
  • bottom bar also lists a quote or maxim on each page, and it differs for each heading tab
although heading tabs overview, vision, and opportunity each use maxim/quote "your future is here..."
  • on most tabs, courses being the exception, all the page's info was chunked together pretty, without the viewer needing to scroll down the page

Patterns of Sequencing

  • the tab order seemms to be the order that the site developers want the viewer to take through the pages; it starts with what others have done, what you'll do to get there, a couple pages of why you should come here, our teachers are good, any questions/

Patterns of Omission

  • student artwork could have been featured on every page, like the background
  • background could've been different colors
  • instructor page doesn't showcase any of the faculties work like it does the students'

Anomolies of Patterns

  • student work page stands out from the others, because of its interactive student work presentation/slideshow-window as all other pages
  • student work page also addresses the viewer as "you;" "you will become excellent...." "you will find..."
  • those three icon/squares are really out of place on both vision and opportunites. maybe they are for aesthetic pleasure only/

Patterns of Relationships

  • the site attempts to establish credibility through the work of its students, and it succeeds pretty well with a link to student quotes, two links to the featured student, and a display of assorted student work all on the "student work" tab

Characterization

  • the site uses ethos throughout in an attempt to establish credibility with the viewer/prospective student. all of the site's credibility rests with the students and teachers that they have at the school, and the student work tab works for the most part. the instructors' page is a bit bare-boned with no interactivity at all and could use some examples of the intructors' work instead of simply their bio and and black and white photo. the page looks like an obituary right now; it needs more life. what doesn't work throughout the site is each page's maxim and/or the enthymeme that is used at the bottom of each page. "your future is here..." "striving to be the best..." "learn from experience..." can all be finished with "alexandria commmunity college: communication art and design," which is unwieldy to say or even think about. the enthymemes work in getting their message across, that the viewer should go to atc, but is nowhere near as effective as their credibility factor.
