AndyMueller > DoItYourselfFacebookResponse
DoItYourselfFacebookResponse assignment My focus was on Ethos, how do persons give an authentic view of themselves? How are/can they be honest and trustworthy? Facebook is for persons much younger than me. It’s also not for single parents. These younger persons seem to be attaching themselves to a myriad of things—music, TV shows, movies, and groups—to form a unique identity. They value drinking, socializing, belonging to a group. Having viewed several profiles, when asked to create my own larger-than-life profile, my intent was to have fun, but not be disrespectful. I literally “cut and pasted” my presentation. I printed out some sheets and used the parts I needed to enlarge a profile. This enlarging didn’t completely work, as I was unable to choose the size I wanted to keep the perspective. I decided that the mismatched sizes of font, graphics, etc. from the printed pages could add to the humor and fun aspect of my presentation. My ethos is that I don’t fit the Facebook profile. I’m too old; my life is focused on raising my son, and will be for at least the next ten years. I’m not much of a joiner. Yes, I have my groups and activities, but they are usually with small groups of people that I trust implicitly. They don’t make silly remarks from the safety of distance, they make them in person, and, hopefully, we all get a laugh. I’m a smart aleck. I know that Facebook is mostly surface level, so I thought I would have fun with that surface aspect. As a single parent who is the same age as most of my son’s classmates’ grandparents, I have nothing in common with the students on Facebook, other than being human and a student. So, I wanted to create a presentation which showed I knew I didn’t belong, but I had an understanding of how it worked. |
